Advanced ideas are applications of the core, never substitutes for it. The Academy makes the prerequisite sequence explicit so a learner can rebuild without shame and accelerate without guessing.

Repetition can strengthen memory; mastery also requires explanation, independent use, transfer, and later retrieval. A ninety-percent score can be one signal; it is not the whole definition. A learner advances by domain only when the evidence shows a usable mental model, not when a page is merely finished.

The defensible claim is narrower: its major instructional components have research support when adults provide explicit teaching, guidance, feedback, assessment, safety, and outside validation. Talk test: moderate activity allows talking but not singing; vigorous activity permits only a few words before a breath. This simple field check is approximate, so use individualized clinical guidance when a learner has a disability, chronic condition, injury, or other health need.

Safety and honesty: Movement is part of the daily Academy rhythm when the learner's health plan and environment allow it. The adult and learner select or adapt the modality, load, duration, and recovery. Ordinary exertion or temporary muscular shaking is not automatically injury, but stop for sharp, escalating, or form-altering pain; dizziness; breathing difficulty; numbness; unsafe conditions; or a medical stop rule. A brief reset counts toward the 60-minute target only when its actual duration and intensity qualify.

In a 28-study homework meta-analysis, overall involvement had a very small negative association with achievement; autonomy support was positively associated, while content help, control, and frequency were largely unrelated.

Individual pace, mixed ages & accelerationRead evidence

What the research foundMixed-age grouping alone shows no consistent achievement advantage. A 299-study K–12 review found student-centered instruction moderately beneficial when the teacher remained a guide, but greater learner control over pacing and navigation was negatively related to achievement. For appropriately selected advanced learners, a second-order synthesis found academic benefits from acceleration; a selected gifted-cohort study found no association between amount of acceleration and later psychological well-being.

Claim boundaryIndividual pacing is adult-guided, not unlimited self-pacing. Acceleration evidence applies to appropriately selected advanced learners; the well-being study was observational and involved highly selected gifted cohorts. Faster completion does not prove deeper mastery, maturity, or college readiness, and age-related safety and social needs remain.

The honest full-year gate

The Genesis is enough to design a year. It is not yet an authored year.

The Atlas contains twelve volumes, 120 strategic blocks, an 18-week runway, foundational sequences, a project ladder, media slots, assessment logic, and a Month 1 tracker. The preserved separate-app learner source contains one authored review week, but no learner release is live on this Site. A defensible school year needs the six release conditions below.

A home-based private school must satisfy California's full-time private-school rules, required branches, affidavit, attendance, and records duties; CDE does not publish one universal hourly conversion for that pathway. The credentialed private-tutor exemption is different and explicit: at least three hours per day for 175 days, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Public district and charter funding rules use annual instructional-minute floors: 36,000 for kindergarten; 50,400 for grades 1–3; 54,000 for grades 4–8; and 64,800 for grades 9–12. Those public-system figures are useful benchmarks—not an automatic private-homeschool equivalency formula.

Academy planning math: twenty released days × 240 core minutes = 4,800 minutes, or 80 core hours, in Month 1. Ten months schedule 48,000 core minutes, or 800 core hours, plus qualifying activity recorded separately. Hours document opportunity; completed instruction, required-branch coverage, assessed work, attendance, and the family's actual legal pathway establish the record.

For an involved adult and learner

The first ten setup decisions.

This model expects a present adult: preparing materials, reading aloud, protecting rest and safety, discussing ideas, preserving evidence, and learning alongside the child. Families may share that role across parents, relatives, tutors, coaches, libraries, museums, and community experts.

  1. Choose the legal pathway.Confirm enrollment, withdrawal, affidavit, attendance, testing, and record obligations with official state sources.
  2. Name the responsible adult.Assign who plans, teaches, checks work, keeps records, and makes safety decisions.
  3. Set the environment.Create a reading place, writing surface, math manipulatives, art storage, safe movement area, device rules, and a visible daily rhythm.
  4. Inventory the learner.Collect prior records and observe reading, spelling, writing, math, science reasoning, movement, interests, and support needs domain by domain.
  5. Protect health.Plan sleep, meals, water, movement, outdoor time, accommodations, medication or emergency needs, and professional support when needed.

Acceleration without rushing childhood

Can a prepared learner begin college early? Sometimes—if the institution admits the learner. It is a pathway, not a promise.

Uncapped placement can let a learner reach advanced work early in one domain while continuing age-appropriate development elsewhere. Dual enrollment or special-admit community-college study may provide real college courses before high-school completion, but admission, age, prerequisites, unit limits, parental and school approvals, and support rules are set by law and each college.

For California community-college dual enrollment, grades become part of the permanent college transcript. The Chancellor's Office warns that poor grades can affect financial aid and four-year eligibility, and units may count toward applicable caps. Readiness must include independent reading and writing, mathematics prerequisites, executive function, communication, transport and safety, willingness, and the maturity to ask for help—not only a high test score.

Evidence boundary: Federal evidence reviews find positive effects of dual enrollment for grades 9–12 on college access, credit accumulation, high-school completion, and degree attainment. Evidence for college readiness is smaller, and the review found no discernible effect on college academic achievement from a small evidence base. The lottery-tested Early College model included college partnerships, tutoring, counseling, and other supports; it did not isolate which component caused the gains. None of this establishes that arbitrarily young children should enter college.

The art spine begins with looking

Draw, compare, make, revise, and place art inside history.

Year 1 begins with elements of art, observation drawing, self-portrait, color, texture, pattern, buildings, nature, and visual storytelling. Van Gogh supports color, brushwork, self-portrait, place, and emotion-as-interpretation. Leonardo supports notebooks, close observation, anatomy with age-appropriate boundaries, engineering sketches, proportion, and Renaissance context. Global artists and traditions prevent the spine from becoming a two-man European survey.

Use museum education pages and object-specific rights statements; link or print only what the rights permit. Copyrighted books, films, recordings, and modern translations are family-licensed resources, not material for the Academy to copy into packets.

The next useful move

Observe what the learner can do independently. Preserve the evidence. Strengthen the prerequisite that gives the next effort a place to stand. Release the next month only when its learner pages, key, sources, safety, and assessments agree.
